OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Another Oklahoma lawmaker says they want to listen in on the State Board of Education's (OSBE) executive session.
Fox 25 spoke with State Rep. Jacob Rosecrants (D-Norman) ahead of Wednesday's special meeting, as some people are basically camping outside of the OSDE building with chairs and signs.
"There's a lot of us in Oklahoma," Erica Watkins with the Defense of Democracy said. "Ryan Walters doesn't speak for all of us."
Watkins says that's the message behind tomorrow's peaceful protest, which will happen outside of the OSDE building.
"We want parents and people who disagree with what's going on to be able to have a space where they can make their voices heard."
Rep. Rosecrants supporting a call for a peaceful protest.
"I'm not alone in this," State Rep. Rosecrants said. "There are a whole lot of parents, and this [issue] does cross the aisle. This is independents, republicans, democrats, so it's not just the liberals. It's folks who love their public schools."
State Rep. Rosecrants says he'll be at Wednesday's meeting, and plans to attend their executive session.
"I am on the House Education committee, and that gives me the power to do so. So, if they try to prevent me from doing that, then I guess we'll have to see what happens. But, I don't believe they can."
He says if he's not allowed in, he would consider taking legal action as a last resort.
This comes as Senator Mary Boren (D-Norman) also wants access to OSBE's executive sessions. Turns out, Boren's intentions will be discussed during tomorrow's executive session.
Fox 25 asked the OSDE for their response to State Rep. Rosecrants, but our newsroom did not hear back.
