Woman dead following officer involved shooting at SW OKC apartment complex

UPDATE: Authorities say one woman is dead and one man hospitalized following an officer involved shooting at a southwest Oklahoma City apartment complex Monday.

According to Oklahoma City Police Department, officers responded to a shots fired call in the 1700 block of S. Grand Blvd just southwest of I44 and SW 15th Street just before 6:00 p.m. Monday.

Police say the suspected shooter Ricky Knowles was armed with a pistol at the Oak Grove Apartments when he was spotted by an officer behind the building.

That's when authorities say the police officer, Lt. Marc Scott, fired at Knowles, missing him. Knowles then ran into an apartment unit and eventually surrendered after more police units arrived on scene.

Investigators say Knowles allegedly shot and killed 20-year-old Nicole Riggs.

According to the police report, Knowles and Riggs were in a relationship. Authorities say the two were visiting family and friends at the apartment complex when Knowles allegedly removed a pistol from a backpack and shot Riggs numerous times.

A short time later, he also shot a man a multiple times before police arrived on the scene. Police are calling the shooting a domestic situation.

The shooting victims were taken to OU Medical Center where Knowles passed away a short time later. Police say the male victim is expected to be okay.

The officer who shot Knowles has reportedly been placed on administrative leave authorities investigate the situation. Officer Scott has served 19 years on the force.
