The suspect who lead police on a chase in Yukon Sunday that ended with a Yukon officer crashing into an uninvolved pickup has been identified and is in custody.

Police say James Emmons, 24, was arrested after the chase ended near N. Sara Road and E. Wagner Road. According to police, Emmons was the driver who lead them on a chase that started at the Walmart in Yukon.

Police said they were called to around 4:00 p.m. Sunday to a report of two suspects looking into cars in the parking lot while shoppers were inside. Witnesses believed they were trying to break into vehicles. Police said they did not catch them committing the crime but found them nearby.

Yukon Lt. Darla James says the officer was helping with the chase when a truck turned near N. Sara Road and E. Wagner Road.

"When he made the turn, he failed to see the police car," Lt. James said.

After the crash, the officer and pickup crashed into a ditch as the chase continued. The officer and pickup truck driver were both treated for minor injuries after the accident.

Police say the the chase continued and the two were eventually able to get away but they said they know both people involved and planned to issue warrants.

Officers tracked down Emmons and booked him into the Oklahoma County Jail Monday morning for driving under suspension, improper tag decal, improper license plate, and driving car with taxes due. The other suspect has not been identified.

Police say they were unable to catch the two in the act but when they arrived, they were able to identify them by their vehicle. Witnesses said they were in a gray car with a pink hood.

For any would-be criminals out there, Lt. James has some advice.

"If you're gonna do crime, don't do it in a car like that."
