Sooners ready for the 2014 season

Posted: Updated:
Trevor Knight, Geneo Grissom, Chuka Ndulue, Daryl Williams and Julian Wilson all strolled up to the podium for their interview sessions at Big 12 Media Days on Tuesday-but with some extra pep in their steps.

Maybe it's because Oklahoma is the favorite to win the Big 12 this year. Maybe it's because there's more anticipation surrounding this program than there has been in a long time.

One thing's sure-the Sugar Bowl win was huge for Oklahoma.

But, as big as the win was for the Sooners, it's now in the past. As Trevor Knight told the media, it's time to focus on the 2014 season.

"We've taken that win in the off season, and really used it to propel us into the season," said Knight. "We've worked very hard, had a great summer, the best I've been a part of, so it's been great."

"Coach Stoops let us know right after we reported back from winter workouts that it's a new season," said Sooners safety Julian Wilson. "The Alabama game was a great win for the University, for the coaches, for everybody, for the fans. But at the end of the day, that was last season. It's 2014, we're going into fall camp, we're worried about Louisiana Tech."

Of course, much of the attention surrounds Trevor Knight. The RS Sophomore had a record-setting Sugar Bowl performance, throwing for four TDs. That game was spectacular, but questions concerning his consistency still linger. There's still much to prove. But if you ask OU Head Coach Bob Stoops, he's not concerned at all.

"He has that kind of talent," said Stoops. "Obviously, he showed it. You don't just luck into that. No one prepares harder, or works harder than he does. Naturally, as you gain more experience, generally you gain more consistency."

"Every snap you take, you get more comfortable," said Knight. "Every snap you take, you get more consistent. And then you play in big games like the Sugar Bowl and that gives you confidence to where you play more consistent as well."

We'll find out soon enough.

The Sooners report to campus July 30th, with the first practice the following day.

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded backup center Hasheem Thabeet to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Thunder send cash and Thabeet in exchange for a protected second round pick in 2015 and a trade exception. The move saves OKC $1.25 million that they would have had to pay Thabeet if he had been on the roster August 31st. Oklahoma City now has about $2.8 million in cap space to tinker with the roster that has 14 players. It's expected Philly will waive Thabeet to avoid paying him $1.25 million.
