OBN bust yields child's footprint in cocaine block

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -  Held in it's cellophane packing by duct tape, not far from it's brown evidence bag, a block of cocaine---a kilo---taken off the streets in a drug bust by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

It's not the packaging that makes this unique---it's the so-called signature of the drugs---this one, a child's foot.

It took agents by surprise.

"It is unusual to see a baby's footprint. We don't know the story behind that," said bureau spokesman Mark Woodward.

Woodward says they see signatures on drugs all the time. Sometimes it's an animal or a number---- this is a first.

"I don't think the general public realizes how close they are to some of these groups, how they infiltrate and blend in to everyday communities," Woodward said.

Something that's really good for us when we travel is not so good for those who are trying to stop drug traffickers. From here in central Oklahoma, you can go just about anywhere, I-40 to the east and west, I-35 north and south, and 44 to the corners. It's what makes Oklahoma so attractive to those who bring drugs through and to our state. 20.00

Woodward says traffic stops like this one won't stop anytime soon. 90-95 percent of meth in the state is from Mexico, he says. All the cocaine is from the south.

And Woodward says more is headed here.

"They need our state, our highway system. For some of them, it's worth the risk trying to establish a cell group here," Woodward said.
