Oklahoma Supreme Court Takes Up Common Core Debate

Oklahoma Supreme Court Takes Up Common Core Debate

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Just one month before school starts, the state’s highest court takes up the legislature’s repeal of common core on Tuesday.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court will consider a lawsuit that challenges the legislature’s repeal of common core.
Justices will be asked to decide whether or not the state should keep common core standards in place.

Some parents, teachers and four members of the Oklahoma Board of Education say lawmakers violated the board’s constitutional authority when they passed a law to repeal common core.
The group says the law violates the state’s separation of powers.

Conservative groups maintain that common core represents a federal intrusion into Oklahoma’s public education system.
