Wild story: Dad uses GoPro to film wife giving birth outside hospital

Posted: Updated:
A Texas couple recorded the birth of their new son, but it wasn't the typical delivery room scene.

Little Truett is almost a week old and was two weeks overdue when his mom's water finally broke last Saturday. Kristen and Troy rushed out the door.

"By the time we hit the Sweetwater exit, I was pretty sure we weren't going to make it to the hospital," Kristen said.

She was confident. So confident, in fact, that she screamed it on the GoPro video that her husband recorded on the way to the hospital.

Speeding to the Rosenberg hospital, Troy made it to Texas Children's, just not inside. Little Truett arrived in this world outside of the valet entrance, with Kristen barely making it out of the car.

"She had gotten out of the car and just froze, like stood there. And me and the valet guy were both saying 'Get in the car, alright no, not get in the car, but sit down in the wheelchair! Sit down in the wheelchair! We're going to get you upstairs,'" Troy said.

"That's who I felt the worst for was the poor valet guy cause he was going 'miss please, sit down just sit down.' And I said no, no," Kristen said.

Thankfully, Troy was there to catch Truett. He was born right as hospital staff ran outside. Kristin was well-prepared; she works as a childbirth educator, but this is one lesson she won't be sharing with her students.

"I tell my students, 'This will never happen to you, I promise this is not going to happen to you.' But I do teach them about emergency birth just so they'll be prepared for it, and it can take some of the fear out of it," Kristen said.

Truett is now home with his two older brothers, Turner and Tillman. Since this was their third trip, Troy thought they had enough time to get to the hospital.

As he put on his GoPro, he thought he'd get some excitement along the way but never expected to film a birth like this.

"It'll be a great story for years to come to tell Truett and his big brothers so it's pretty cool."

Three guilty pleas, but a defendant who still says he's not responsible for murdering anyone. While Kevin Sweat awaits sentencing many may think the case is closed, but one criminal profiler says the case should be far from over.“In a real case run by serious professionals, you put the gun in the defendant's hand and you put the projectiles fired from that gun into the victim,” said Dr. Brent Turvey, an internationally renowned criminologist.
