Police: Would-be bank robber foiled by being 'most suspicious ever'

(KOMO) Police in Olympia, Washington say a would-be bank robber was foiled Wednesday afternoon by being so completely suspicious he might as well have been carrying a sack with a dollar sign on it.

According to police, a man with bandages covering his face, a large bandanna on his head, and heavy clothing on (despite the hot day) walked into a bank on Harrison Avenue around 2 p.m. and started loitering around the edges of the teller area while looking at brochures.

Obviously, the man drew the attention of employees, one of whom called 911.

According to police, the man left the bank and got into an SUV, which was promptly stopped by officers.

During their investigation, officers found a pellet gun with its orange tip blacked out in the parking lot near the SUV and discovered the same man had reportedly entered two other nearby banks and acted suspiciously.

According to police, the man initially denied everything before admitting he was going to rob a bank with the pellet gun, only abandoning the plan because he (rightly) though an employee may have called 911.

The man, later identified as 32-year-old William Frank, reportedly said he had financial problems and believed robbing a bank was the way out.

He was booked into Thurston County Jail for investigation of attempted robbery.
