On 61st anniversary, husband writes confession letter to wife

Posted: Updated:
A North Carolina man, on his 61st wedding anniversary, wrote a note to his wife admitting that he's looked at other women.

"I had taken her home and before she got out of the car, I said Gail will you marry me," Bob said.

"That was it. HA HA HA. How's that for romantic?" Gail said.

"That's it and she hesitated a moment," Bob said.

In 61 years of marriage, it might have been the one and only time his romantic side popped up. Bob's not exactly a romantic guy.

"And then she said oh well it's probably the best offer I'll get," Bob said.

"I did not"

Little did Gail know then, just what an offer she had accepted.

"My years with her have been for better or for worse, but worse with her is better than better with anybody else."

Those are his words and they come from his heart. Bob has never had a problem sharing his feelings about his wife. On their 61st anniversary, he shared those feelings in the Charlotte Observer as a confession:

"Dear Gail, I look at newspaper pictures of new brides every Sunday. I'm searching. I want to see if there is now or ever will be another bride as lovely as you...actually I already know the answer. There is not - and never will be to me - your equal in loveliness. On our wedding day you were the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. The delightful truth is that you still are.

Happy anniversary, sweetheart. You've made me and you keep me the happiest and most grateful husband any bride could ever know. I'd gladly welcome another 61 years of marriage with you. Beyond that I pray we will spend eternity together.
All my love, Bob"

Bob admits two brides in those 61 years have come close: their two daughters.
