24-year-old Miss Delaware loses crown for being "too old"

Posted: Updated:
(Dover, Del.) -- The 24-year-old woman named Miss Delaware will lose her crown due to her age.

A state ruling says contestants must be between 17 to 24-years-old throughout the whole year.

Miss Delaware, Amanda Longacre, turns 25-years-old in October.

Pageant officials didn’t realize the mistake till after Longacre signed the contract with the Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization.

She reported her correct age and they told her she could compete.

After officials realized their mistake, they broke the news that she would not be able to compete in the Miss America Pageant in September and that she was being stripped of her title and all prizes associated with that title.

She also lost a $11,000 scholarship that was going to help her pursue her Master’s degree in Social Work.

Longacre says she didn’t know about the age stipulation and she thinks she’s being punished for the organization’s mistake.

Runner-up Brittany Lewis was crowned Miss Delaware 2014 on Thursday, June 26.
