OKLAHOMA CITY - Police have made an arrest in a hit and run accident that killed a man in northwest Oklahoma City Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say they arrested 21-year-old Wilfredo Gomez around 9 p.m. Wednesday night at NW 16th and Meridian Ave.

Investigators believe Gomez was trying to flee the country.

Wilfredo is charged with leaving the scene of a fatality accident and not having a drivers license or car insurance.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, Gomez hit 79-year-old Jack McClung around 3 p.m. on June 22, near the intersection of NW 23rd and N. Meridian Ave.

Witnesses in the area say they saw a black sedan speeding down the road. Police say the black sedan struck McClung who was crossing the road with his groceries.

"The old man goes really high up in the air, and as the old man is in the air, the car just backs up. When the old man hits the ground, the car just speeds around him and just takes off," witness Charles Combs said.

McClung was transported via ambulance to OU Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Police say Gomez was driving a black four-door Honda, Mitsubishi or Mazda that has a red bumper, red grill and a red stripe on each side. The vehicle is said to have significant damage on the windshield due to the collision.

The victim, McClung, was an entrepreneur and founder of "Blue Stuff," a joint pain relief ointment made from emu oil.

His funeral will be held on Thursday.
