Police identify man killed in officer-involved shooting

Posted: Updated:
Monday night, an Oklahoma City man was shot and killed by police officers after they say he stole a car and then refused commands while holding a knife.

Roc LaRue, 33, was killed in NW Oklahoma City Monday night after police say he stole a running vehicle and lead them on a low-speed chase.

According to police, they were called Monday night after the car's owner called and said he had left his vehicle running at Dollar General at NW 50th and Meridian when someone took it. He said he followed the car as he called 911.

Warr Acres Police arrived and tried pulling the driver over near NW 45th and Ann Arbor but he refused to pull over. Police say LaRue kept driving and Oklahoma City Police joined the chase near NW 53rd and Meridian.

Police say he finally pulled over near NW 61st and Shawnee. That's when they said LaRue got out with a large knife in his hands.

Oklahoma City Police said he ignored commands and they used Tasers on him. They said they were ineffective and they then used a bean bag shotgun to try and slow him down. It also proved ineffective and they said LaRue was getting closer to officers. That's when they pulled their firearms.

Police say two of their officers and one Warr Acres officer fired their guns to stop LaRue. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Oklahoma City Police identified the officers involved as Sgt. Christopher Grimes, Officer Daniel Kleehammer, and Warr Acres Officer Cory Drain. Grimes has six years experience while Kleehammer and Drain have three and 1.5, respectively.

Those three officers were placed on administrative leave, the other officers who used Tasers and beanbag shotguns were put on restricted duty status.
