On Cam: Semi-truck flies past stopped school bus, nearly kills 7th grader

Posted: Updated:
(CNN) The driver of a big rig could face charges after he sped past a stopped school bus in Paynesville, Minn., nearly running over a little girl.

The startling moment was caught on video.

School bus driver Mike Egerman was stopped on a rural highway near Paynesville Friday to pick up seventh-grader Alexis Schwartz.

But just as she stepped toward the bus, a semi truck went around the bus – which had a lowered arm and flashing lights -- driving on the highway's shoulder and right toward Alexis.

“As the semi went by there was nothing but dust and I thought she was dead,” Egerman said. “All the sudden her little face appeared.”

Alexis was here, but the semi was gone. Its driver never stopped. Several people watched the whole thing happen and called police. But no one saw the semi's license plate.

“I'm lucky I survived,” Alexis said.

Police say the truck’s driver has contacted them about the incident.

Oklahoma musician shares message of hope through instruments deemed broken beyond repair

“Seeing a broken violin is nothing new to me,” Kyle Dillingham said turning to the shelf of those violins waiting for repair. “They’re all over the place, this is a pretty bad break,” he said pulling out a violin with gaping hole in its shell.  Sometimes a ‘bad break’ is just that for the instrument. Those violins where the repair cost exceeds the replacement value are deemed ‘broken beyond repair.’

Medical mistakes are now the third most common cause of death in the U.S., ahead of breast cancer, AIDS, even car crashes. And a big part of that number comes from mix ups at the pharmacy. It's a mistake that happens more frequently that you might think. Just last week, medication for my family was mistakenly filled at a metro pharmacy with an entirely different drug. We were mistakenly given a generic drug for high cholesterol.
