Cleveland County Sheriff's Office releases scam warning

Posted: Updated:
The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office says they have received reports of someone impersonating the sheriff and asking for money.

According to Cleveland County Sheriff Joe Lester, the call is a scam and the sheriff's office doesn't conduct business in this manner.

The sheriff's office reports that the scammer "spoofs" the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office number making it appear on victim's caller ID systems.

Victims report that the caller is a man with a Middle Eastern accent. The caller requests the victim to send him money through a wire account.

Anyone that has received a similar phone call is asked to report it to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office at 405-701-8888.
