Thunder season ends with home loss

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Thunder's season came to an end with a 112-107 overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs.  It's the first time in the series the home team lost.

The Spurs won the game despite the fact that they played the second half without starting point guard Tony Parker, who had an injured ankle.

Kevin Durant with 34 and Russell Westbrook with 31 points where the ringleaders for the Thunder.  Reggie Jackson add 21 and Serge Ibaka 16 were the other double digit scorers for OKC but that was pretty much it in terms of offense.

The Thunder bench was virtually non existent with Derek Fisher's 5 points the only non starter that scored for Oklahoma City.  The Spurs countered with 49 points from their reserves.

Oklahoma City led at the half 49-42 but they were outscored 37-20 in the third quarter to trail by 10 going into the fourth quarter.

"We turned the ball over,  I think we turned the ball over 12 times in the second half.  Then defensively they had us scrambling around," is the way Thunder coach Scott Brooks describe the second half.

The win gives the Spurs the series 4-2 and sets up a rematch of last season's NBA Finals between the Spurs and Miami Heat.

Game one of that series begins Thursday June 5th.  The Thunder season is over but their is plenty of work ahead.  They've got a draft coming up in late June and decisions to make in free agency with some of their own players and what they can add from the pool of free agents on the market.

Free agency begins in July.
