Cleveland County Sheriff warns of deputy impersonator calling residents

Posted: Updated:
The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office says four different people were called by a man claiming to be a sheriff's deputy and leaving angry messages. Now, the sheriff is warning residents about the possible impersonator.

The sheriff said the caller identifies himself as Lt. Timothy Clark with the sheriff's office. Officials say he leaves an angry message urging a return phone call but when people try to call back, the number is disconnected.

The sheriff's office said they don't have an officer by the name Lt. Timothy Clark. They also say that all deputies carry identification on them.

The sheriff said they received two calls each on Thursday and Friday. If you receive a call like this, you're urged to call the sheriff.

"If you receive a call from this individual, hang up and immediately call the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office and report the incident," Lester said. "Do not agree to meet this person for any reason."
