OKLAHOMA CITY - A former high school teacher and coach found guilty on rape charges learned his fate Thursday morning.

Tyrone Nash, a former high school basketball coach convicted of rape, was sentenced to 10 years Thursday morning.

Nash will have to spend at least 2 years behind bars with the rest of the sentence suspended.

A judge found Nash guilty of rape last month, for having sex with a Western Heights High School student.

Nash was a physical education teacher and basketball coach at the high school when he raped a 16-year-old girl.

The victim told the court the relationship between the two started in 2010 and that Nash had sex with her several times while she was a sophomore and a junior at the school.

Tyrone Nash was arrested and charged in 2011 with five counts of second degree rape and five counts of oral sodomy. In April, he rejected a plea deal and was later convicted.

After the sentence was announced, Nash gave his thoughts of the ruling to Fox 25's Danielle Dupuy.

"It doesn't matter what I say. Its guilty until proven innocent," Nash said.

His attorney, David Slane, tried to get the charges dismissed, saying the victim had reached the age of consent, but the judge rejected that motion.

"We always thought this wasn't a prison case. we always thought it was either a not guilty of these charges or probation, but we will now let it go up to the appeals court," Slane said. "Two days in jail is too long in my opinion for this and so, as a lawyer, I can just hope and pray that my client can stay strong while I try to appeal."
