The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Friday that injured forward Serge Ibaka could play against the San Antonio Spurs.

According to General Manager Sam Presti, Ibaka is currently participating in light basketball drills and is walking. They have now listed him as day-to-day. Presti said once the swelling in his calf subsided, he was able to move more freely.

“The abundance of blood and therefore swelling in Serge’s calf has reduced substantially and unexpectedly, allowing a level of movement and stability not thought possible after the initial diagnosis. Based on both imaging and physical exam, the considerable swelling in the calf indicated the likelihood of a certain degree of injury, and that established the original time frame for recovery," Presti said in a statement.

Just one week ago, Presti announced Ibaka would miss the rest of the playoffs after he injured his calf in the series clinching game six against the Clippers.

On Thursday, Ibaka posted this statement to fans on his website, sergeibaka.com:

As you all know, I suffered an injury in the sixth game of the Conference Semifinals against the Los Angeles Clippers. This means I am not able to play in the Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. It’s a difficult moment because this is the most important time of the year. All the work done during the summer and preparation during the season is focused on being ready and at your best when the Playoffs arrive, so it’s obviously disappointing not to be able to help my team on the court. But injuries are part of the game and the only way to go through this is to stay positive and try to be healthy as soon as possible.

All players and coaching staff feel the Thunder is a family, and I have no doubt my ‘family member’ will put in a great effort in this difficult series. We are all the Thunder and we take pride in staying together against adversity. I will watch and cheer for them as their brother and their fan. Also, a lot of people have shown me support the last few days and I feel very fortunate to have such amazing fans. Thank you!

Serge

Ibaka is averaging 12.2 points on 69-of-112 (.616) shooting from the field, 7.3 rebounds and 2.23 blocks in 13 postseason games.  During the 2013-14 regular season, Ibaka notched career-highs with 15.1 points and 8.8 rebounds, while leading the league in total blocks for the fourth consecutive season with 219 blocked shots.

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded backup center Hasheem Thabeet to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Thunder send cash and Thabeet in exchange for a protected second round pick in 2015 and a trade exception. The move saves OKC $1.25 million that they would have had to pay Thabeet if he had been on the roster August 31st. Oklahoma City now has about $2.8 million in cap space to tinker with the roster that has 14 players. It's expected Philly will waive Thabeet to avoid paying him $1.25 million.
