Sooner Tea Party leader guilty of blackmail, computer crimes

OKLAHOMA CITY - A jury found Al Gerhart guilty of the charges against him Wednesday night.  Gerhart is the leader and co-founder of the Sooner Tea Party.

The judge will decide a punishment. The jury recommended Gerhart serve no jail time and pay a $1,000 fine.

Charges were pressed against Gerhart last April after he sent an email to state Senator Cliff Branan, (R) Oklahoma City.  In the email Gerhart wrote Sen. Branan should hear a bill "or I will make sure you regret not doing it."  Branan said he felt threatened by the email.

Gerhart's trial began Monday in an Oklahoma County District Court.
