Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant has officially been named the 2013-2014 NBA Most Valuable Player.

The Thunder put out the press release around 10:00 AM Tuesday, officially announcing Durant won the Maurice Podoloff Trophy as the 2013-14 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player.

Durant earned the honor after leading the Thunder to a fourth consecutive Northwest Division title and the second best record in the NBA (59-23). Durant averaged a career-best 32.0 points to go with 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists, also a career high.

This is Durant's first MVP award and he joins Wilt Chamberlain, George Gervin, and Michael Jordan as the only players to win the MVP award and scoring title in the same season.

Durant received 119 of 125 first place votes, beating out LeBron James by 113.

For the fifth straight season, fans got a chance to vote on the MVP by ranking the top five choices at NBA.com. The fan vote counted collectively as one and was compiled with 124 media votes to determine the winner. Players were awarded 10 points for each first place vote, seven for each second place vote, five for each third place, three for each fourth-place, and one for each fifth-place vote received.

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded backup center Hasheem Thabeet to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Thunder send cash and Thabeet in exchange for a protected second round pick in 2015 and a trade exception. The move saves OKC $1.25 million that they would have had to pay Thabeet if he had been on the roster August 31st. Oklahoma City now has about $2.8 million in cap space to tinker with the roster that has 14 players. It's expected Philly will waive Thabeet to avoid paying him $1.25 million.
