NORMAN -

Norman began their 89er Day festivities Saturday morning with a parade.

The day commemorates the Great Land Run of April 22, 1889 which was the opening of  settlement in the "Unassigned Lands" of central Oklahoma.

The parade began at Main St. and Crawford then went west into the historic district.   This year two new entries were seen.  An Oklahoma flag stretching the width of Main St. was carried through the parade route and a new mascot called 89er Norm was seen.

The 89er Day events continued with Big Read activities sponsored by the Pioneer Library System and will be followed at 2:00 p.m. with a Wild West Show at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds, 601 E. Robinson.
