Oklahoma's Defense looking tough

Oklahoma's Defense looking tough

Posted: Updated:

As Oklahoma winds down spring practice its evident that they expect their defense to be pretty good.  A year ago the Sooners defensive line was considered a question mark during spring workouts but today head coach Bob Stoops considers it a strength with experience and depth.

Defensive end Geneo Grissom, a star in the Sugar Bowl, is getting time at linebacker while linebacker Eric Striker is getting work at safety.  Whether or not those moves are permanent is not known but it shows the confidence the coaches have in those players and a willingness to expand their roles.

One thing defensive coordinator Mike Stoops is looking for is a more physical presence from his defense.

"Being more physical is learning how to play more physical.  I think that gets back to technique, understanding blocking positions," said Stoops.  "All the experience we got in this defense a year ago is going to lead to that."

Oklahoma will have their annual Spring Game Saturday afternoon at 2:00.  Eleven players, including Sterling Shepard, Blake Bell, Julian Wilson and Durron Neal,  will set out the event due to various injuries.
