Washington state authorities need help identifying victim with ties to Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

Washington State investigators say a 1998 murder victim may have ties to Oklahoma.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the body of a man in his late teens or early 20s was found on or before March 6, 1998 in Tumwater, Washington.

The Washington State Medical Examiner reported the young man died of blunt force trauma. Authorities say an accelerant was used to prevent identification.

Detectives working the 16-year-old case say they believe the young man was from Oklahoma. The young man reportedly told several individuals of his ties to Oklahoma before his death.

An OSBI forensic artist recently sketched a likeness of the victim from postmortem photographs.

The victim is believed to be between 5'8" - 5'10" tall and approximately 165 pounds with short, light brown or red hair.

At the time of his death, he was wearing two blue sweatshirts over a white Sherwin Williams t-shirt as well as white Dickie painter-style pants and camel-colored work boots.

Police say the victim showed evidence of dental work and good dental hygiene and appeared to be well groomed. He also did not have any scars, birthmarks or tattoos on his body.

Anyone with information on the man is asked to contact Detective Ron Knapp with the Thurston County Sheriff's Office at 360-786-5278 or the OSBI hotline at 1-800-522-8017.
