A man wanted in Oklahoma and Kansas is behind bars after what federal officials call a chance encounter at a restaurant.

30-year-old Virgil Tillman was wanted in Sequoya County, Oklahoma, after he failed to appear in court on drug and weapons charges. He was also wanted in Kansas for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana, as well as theft and a bench warrant. A U.S. Marshal had been chasing him around the Kansas City area since early February until he caught him, without really trying.

The U.S. Marshals office in Kansas City tells FOX 25 the deputy had canvassed the Kansas City metro searching for him. On Sunday, the deputy sat down for a meal at Fogo de Chao, a restaurant on the Country Club Plaza, when he spotted Tillman.

After seeing him and a woman whom the deputy had questioned, the deputy went outside and called police for backup. They let Tillman finish his meal and as he walked out they went to arrest him. As he started to leave, he saw the officers and even tried to hold the restaurant doors shut. Officers won that battle and placed him in handcuffs.

Tillman was taken to jail while the deputy went back inside to finish his meal.
