Residents in northeast Oklahoma City have been evacuated from their homes after a gas line was hit by a construction crew in the area.
Authorities were called to NE 48th and Prospect just before 11:00 AM Tuesday on a report of a gas leak. Officials on the scene say the line was ruptured when a construction company hit the line.
The company was contracted out by the city to install a sewer line. Officials say the company was aware of the line and was working to clear out dirt to get to the line when a piece of cement or asphalt dropped onto the gas line.
Crews were able to cap the leak within just a few minutes. Several houses in the immediate area were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Oklahoma National Gas crews are on the scene and investigating the leak. No injuries or illnesses were reported with the leak.
