Elderly man shot & killed by Oklahoma City Police Sunday morning

OKLAHOMA CITY -

Oklahoma City police are investigating an officerinvolved shooting early Sunday morning.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m. EMSA got a call for a suicidalman in the 4300 block of NW 21st Terrace. When the paramedics arrived they spoke with the wife of the suicidalsubject and was told the man was inside the home and was armed.  EMSA waited outside while waiting on policeto arrive on scene, following EMSA protocol.

Four police officers arrived on the scene and spoke withthe wife and the paramedics then approached the home.  The door was open and police said they wereable to talk to the subject but couldn't see him.  Police say the man refused to come out andofficers began making their way down a hallway to him.  Once they reached a bedroom they said theycould see the man and a gun nearby.

According to police, the man refused several commands tocome out before he picked up his weapon and pointed it at the officers.  That's when officers said they shot andkilled the man.

At this time it is unknown if the subject fired hisweapon.  It is also unknown how manyofficers fired their guns or how many bullets were fired.

At the conclusion of the investigation into the shootingthe officers will be placed on routine administrative leave.  The findings of the investigation will beforwarded to the District Attorney's Office for review.

The names of the officers involved and of the man, whowas in his seventies, are being withheld at this time.
