Early morning fire in Guthrie claims life of teenager

Posted: Updated:

The Guthrie Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that took the life of a 15 year old.

According to Fire Chief Eric Harlow the fire call came out in the 700 block of E. Springer about 12:40 a.m. Saturday morning.

On arrival firefighters found the mother and a 10 year old with a neighbor in the front yard.   Police officers had arrived shortly before and learned that a 15 year old male was still inside the structure on the second floor.  An attempt had been made to get the boy out but was unsuccessful.

Firefighters climbed the stairs to the second floor and attempted to reach the teenager but the heat from the fire was so intense they had to find another route.  After reaching the boy it was discovered he had died, apparently from smoke inhalation.

The home was a total loss with damage estimated to be more than $50,000.

It is campaign season again as the primary runoff elections draw closer.  That means your phones are probably already ringing either from supporters or pollsters trying to figure out who you plan to vote for at the polls.
