A river otter in Florida went toe-to-toe with a young, but still large, alligator and wins the battle.

The Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge posted five photos on their Facebook page earlier this week. They were snapped in 2011 at the refuge but have only just now been released.

The large river otter took on the juvenile gator and can be seen in the photos pulling the gator up onto a river bank and chomping down on it. The otter eventually won the war and made a meal of the gator.

Otters usually feast on fish and crustaceans, but do eat amphibians and reptiles from time to time.

Photographer Geoff Walsh captured the photos in the refuge three years ago.
