Stores stay open for last minute rush of Christmas shoppers

OKLAHOMA CITY -

Parking lots were packed in front of stores all over the metro Tuesday as holiday shoppers pushed the deadline for Christmas presents.

"I dreaded it. I just didn't get it done so I had to get it done now," Lauren Hoskins said.

Hoskins made her final selections at Quail Springs Mall about 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. Across the parking lots, other shoppers made a trip to Best Buy to look for gifts.

"Today is a mad house," shopper Robert Palumbo said.

Traffic was constant, but less packed at local stores. Shopkeepers at Plenty Mercantile in Automobile Alley said the busy day was fun to keep up with.

The store opened it's doors today, while some chose not too, because owners knew it was the nice thing to do.

"We would want to be getting gifts on Christmas Eve still, probably too and if we needed to get gifts on Christmas Eve, then we would want to do it locally. So, we're just trying to treat people the way we would want to be treated," founder Brittney Melton said.

Plenty closed at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday. Most other stores were closed by 6:00 p.m. There will be limited options for people still looking for items.

Some CVS locations will keep running 24-hours through the holiday. Some Walgreens stores will also stay open 24-hours, with other locations opening from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas.

All 7-Eleven stores will be open all day Christmas day.

Select Denny's, IHOP, McDonald's and Starbucks locations have limited hours Christmas.

Oklahoma musician shares message of hope through instruments deemed broken beyond repair

“Seeing a broken violin is nothing new to me,” Kyle Dillingham said turning to the shelf of those violins waiting for repair. “They’re all over the place, this is a pretty bad break,” he said pulling out a violin with gaping hole in its shell.  Sometimes a ‘bad break’ is just that for the instrument. Those violins where the repair cost exceeds the replacement value are deemed ‘broken beyond repair.’

Medical mistakes are now the third most common cause of death in the U.S., ahead of breast cancer, AIDS, even car crashes. And a big part of that number comes from mix ups at the pharmacy. It's a mistake that happens more frequently that you might think. Just last week, medication for my family was mistakenly filled at a metro pharmacy with an entirely different drug. We were mistakenly given a generic drug for high cholesterol.
