3/4 of an inch of ice possible for central Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

From the FOX 25 First Forecast Center....

A strong winter storm is set to impact Oklahoma Friday night into Sunday morning.

Along the I40 and I44 corridor an Ice Storm Warning has been posted for significant accumulations of freezing rain Friday night into Saturday afternoon. Ice accumulations of .25"-.75" on exposed surfaces like trees and power lines seems likely.

You and your family should be prepared for possible widespread power outages that could affect your plans. Also some roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will become slick and hazardous.

A Winter Storm warning has been posted for northwestern OK where freezing rain will change to snow Saturday afternoon ending by Sunday morning.  Expect 4-6 inches of snow in the warning area with locally higher amounts possible.

All precipitation will taper off and end by Sunday morning and the weather will slowly improve as we go into the Christmas Holiday with temps getting above freezing.
