EDMOND -

Some Edmond Police Officers were in the right place at the right time Tuesday morning and helped a mom bring a new life into the world.

Edmond Police tweeted this message Tuesday: "It isn't everyday our officers deliver a baby on the side of the road. Mom & baby are fine."

The department also included the attached picture. Click here for more pictures from the scene.

Edmond PD says the baby was delivered near E 15th and S Rankin.

Baby Kingsley is the newest member of the johnson family.

"This is Kingsley, Kingsley Vickers Johnson. He's 5 pounds nine ounces 18 and half inches

Colin and DalishaJjohnson are very proud parents.

"He's extremely adorable. I can say so myself," said Colin.

But the couple said the newborn gave them quite a surprise on the way to OU Medical Center in Edmond. It wasn't a traditional delivery for Kingsley's mom. She gave birth on the side of the road with the help of two Edmond police officers.

"I guess the baby's head was already coming out when Jimmy got there," said Detective Mike Chesley.  He and Detective Jimmy Gwartney tried to get the couple to the hospital with a police escort but Baby Kingsley couldn't wait so they helped with the delivery.

"It all happened so fast. My main concern was making sure the mom was ok and the baby made it out," said Detective Gwartney.

"The dad got to catch his son coming out. We were just there for encouragement," added Chesley.

Cell phone video shot by Dalisha moments after giving birth shows Colin cut the umbilical cord on the side of the road. Then hand Kingsley over to paramedics.

"I don't think I have the right words to describe it but it was breath taking," he said.

Colin said he will always remember the detectives who helped deliver his son.

"They did a great job of giving us assistance."

"It's just part of being at the right time at the right place and doing our job," said Gwartney.

"It's a great early Christmas present for them," added Chesley.

This is the 5th child for the couple. They say it will be the last.
