Victim in 'Sharkeisha' video says she's victimized again

Posted: Updated:

A Houston teen says she was beaten by a classmate she thought was a good friend. The incident was caught on camera and quickly spread across the internet. But she says that's just adding insult to injury.

In a video that's very disturbing to some, 17-year-old Shamichael Manuel says she was a victim of a sucker punch and is now being victimized again.

She says she was walking to school with her friend, Sharkeisha, when the 16-year-old punched her and assaulted her. She says she believes she was set up by the now-former friend and a group of other girls because of a dispute over a boy.

"We were talking in school earlier that day. She made it seem like there was nothing wrong with her."

Cell phone video of the beat down was posted online and went viral with the girl attacking her getting worldwide notoriety. Her name, Sharkeisha, is even getting a trending hashtag and internet meme.

Her mom says the entire thing is disturbing.

"The video's just going and going. They're making jokes, and they're taunting. They're glorifying the girl Sharkeisha, but they're taunting my daughter at the same time," Olevia Henderson said.

But she says it's not just online. She was doing some shopping when she heard people talking about it.

"I was in the grocery store, and the girl was checking out my groceries. The baggers were just laughing and talking about it. I said that's my daughter in that video, and their whole expression changed," she said.

A week after the attack, Manuel has recovered from her black eye and busted lip. But she says knowing that people are laughing and sharing the video for entertainment at her expense makes it impossible to fully heal.

"I'm going to have to deal with this for the rest of my life. How would you feel if that was your daughter or your son and it happened to them how would you feel?"
