Sooners, Knight come through at K-State. Stoops passes Switzer

Posted: Updated:

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- Brennan Clay ran for a career-high 200 yards and two touchdowns, leading No. 22 Oklahoma to a 41-31 victory over Kansas State on Saturday and moving Sooners coach Bob Stoops past Barry Switzer for the most wins in school history.

It was the 158th victory at Oklahoma for Stoops, and it came against his former mentor. Stoops was a defensive assistant under Kansas State coach Bill Snyder from 1989-95.

Freshman Trevor Knight, filling in for the injured Blake Bell, threw for 171 yards and accounted for two TDs for the Sooners (9-2, 6-2 Big 12). He made do without running back Damien Williams and wide receiver Lacoltan Bester, who were reportedly suspended earlier in the week.

Tyler Lockett had 12 catches for a school-record 278 yards and three touchdowns for Kansas State (6-5, 4-4), which had its four-game win streak end.

Before the season started the Oklahoma defense was billed as being deep in the defensive line with plenty of big play ability at linebacker and a secondary that was young at safety. After Saturday's 32 point win over Louisiana Tech they proved worthy of that assessment. Louisiana Tech quarterback Cody Sokol spent much of the game running for his life as the OU defense spent much of the game in the Bulldog backfield."They together were really good. Many people will say you can't get anything out of beating an overmatched opponent.  Oklahoma did play an overmatched Louisiana Tech team but they did what you're supposed to do.  They dominated from the start and won a game that wasn't as close as even a 48-16 blowout suggests it was.

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded backup center Hasheem Thabeet to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Thunder send cash and Thabeet in exchange for a protected second round pick in 2015 and a trade exception. The move saves OKC $1.25 million that they would have had to pay Thabeet if he had been on the roster August 31st. Oklahoma City now has about $2.8 million in cap space to tinker with the roster that has 14 players. It's expected Philly will waive Thabeet to avoid paying him $1.25 million.
