Boil order issued for rural Ada residents because of E. coli

Posted: Updated:
ADA -

A boil order is in place for rural Ada residents Friday afternoon following the discovery of E. coli bacteria in the raw water supply.

The city's raw water line carries untreated water from Byrds Mill Spring.  Water is not treated by the city at the source.  Water from the spring should not be considered safe to drink.

Once the raw water enters the city's water plant, it is tested and treated for human consumption before it enters the distribution system.

If you live in the Ada city limits and your water comes from the tap, your water is safe to drink.

There are taps on the city's raw water line in rural areas south of Ada.  Any raw water line tap that is used for drinking water should be outfitted with a chlorinator.  If you have a tap on the raw water line and you do not have a chlorinator, you're advised to boil your water before drinking.

The boil order affects between 50-100 people in rural Ada.
