Police identify but still search for suspected burglar

Posted: Updated:

The Spencer Police Department said Friday that its investigators have identified a person they believe burglarized several Spencer residents.

Spencer police say their suspect is Gerald Dewayne Lee, 27, of Midwest City.

Police say the break-ins started November 4 at a shop on N Douglas but wasn't discovered until three days later. On November 7, the owner discovered the crime. The owner reported about 300 pounds of copper, several air conditioning units, and several tools were taken. The owner had recently installed cameras that caught images of one black male on the property.

According to the police department, the video shows the man taking out a pair of pruning shears and then talking on his cell phone. In the video, the man looks up at the camera before stepping out of the shot. The video feed is then cut.

Police officials say in the past two weeks officers have taken several burglary reports, all within a two square mile area.

Lee is described as a black man, 5'9" tall, 178 lbs. Anyone with information is urged call Spencer Police at 771-3798
