Spencer police need the public's help identifying suspects who may be connected to several burglaries in the area over the past couple of weeks.

The latest burglary happened on Monday, November 4, when several suspects broke into a shop near Douglas and Spencer Jones Road.  The property owner recently installed surveillance cameras that caught footage of one suspect on the property.

The homeowner discovered his barn had been broken into and 300 pounds of copper and a large amount of tools gone.

Spencer Police Chief Virgil Green says on the video, you can see a black male enter the property carrying a backpack and wearing a purple hoodie with a pair of purple sweatpants that had been cut into short pants.  The suspect takes out a pair of tree pruning shears.  During the burglary, you see the suspect talking on his cell phone as if he's in no rush to leave the crime scene.

At one point on the surveillance video, you can see two unidentifiable males running from a wooded area toward the residence and then the surveillance camera goes black.

Spencer police have investigated several burglary reports in a two square mile of each other.  In one case, surveillance video captured images of two males who broke into a barn and spent more than five hours inside.

Police believe there are two separate groups targeting the Spencer area.  They have submitted several pieces of evidence left at one crime scene to the OSBI or analysis.

If you have any details on the burglaries or can identify the suspect, call the Spencer Police Department at 771.3798.
