OKLAHOMA CITY -

A Del City man faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he attacked another man with a hammer at a metro Wal-Mart.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, officers were called just before noon Nov. 4 to the Belle Isle Blvd. Wal-Mart after receiving reports of a man assaulted by another person with a hammer.

Officers contacted the victim who stated he was hit in the back of the head by a man he did not know while standing near the sporting goods counter. The suspect fled the scene after the incident.

The victim was treated at the scene and advised to go to a hospital.

Police say they located the suspect, 28-year-old William Raymond Allen, after he attempted to check himself into St. Anthony's Hospital for evaluation. The suspect admitted to hitting the other man with a hammer and said he had been off his prescribed medication for some time.

Police then arrested Allen and booked him in to the Oklahoma County Jail without incident.
