One day after a former state lawmaker is convicted of bribery, an Oklahoma County judge has ruled he remain free on bond during his appeals process.

On Wednesday, District Judge Cindy Truong ordered former Representative Randy Terrill, of Moore, to surrender his passport and not leave the state while he remains free on a $10,000 bond. Terrill must also wear an ankle monitoring device and agreed to avoid contact with witnesses during the process.

On Tuesday, A 12-member jury convicted Terrill of offering a bribe for withdrawal of candidacy. Prosecutors say Terrill offered former State Senator Debbie Leftwich a high paying job, if she did not run for reelection.  However, the two former lawmakers have maintained their innocence.

The jury recommended a year in prison and a $5,000 fine.

"We're obviously pleased with the jury's verdict," said Gayland Gieger, Assistant District Attorney for Oklahoma County.

As Terrill walked out of jail Wednesday he said he does not plan on making a return trip because he is innocent and confident the appeals court will rule in his favor.

"Can you withdraw from an election you never entered? It's just that simple," said Terrill, regarding the Leftwich controversy.

Terrill also told FOX 25's Phil Cross he had a message to the legislature.

"You better watch your back," said Terrill, "because if you make the district attorney mad, you may be next."

Leftwich will stand trial in December. If convicted, she could face up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Both former lawmakers maintain their innocence.
