Oklahoma school grading problems continue

Posted: Updated:

(AP) -- The Oklahoma State Department of Education has confirmed local school leaders' accounts of significant fluctuations in preliminary A-F grades for schools.

Schools had a Monday deadline to request that the state correct or otherwise verify their new school grade cards.

On Friday, State Superintendent Janet Barresi said her department needed up to two more weeks before asking the state Board of Education to finalize the report cards and release them publicly.

But the Tulsa World reports that Tulsa Public Schools found that 45 of the district schools' scores were changed by the state Friday night -- resulting in lower grades at 10 schools.

By Saturday, a check showed that the individual school site scores had all rebounded to within one point of where they had been earlier Friday.

Muslims Oklahomans are being warned to be cautious in public to avoid becoming victims of hate crimes. CAIR-Oklahoma issued the warning, alongside other Council on American-Islamic Relations chapters across the country. This month, there have been two attacks in New York against Muslims. Both cases are linked to ethnic bias.
