Chicago Burger Garnished with Communion Wafer

CHICAGO (AP) -

A Chicago restaurant has cooked up a controversial burger of the month for October.

"The Ghost" is a cheeseburger with an unconsecrated communion wafer garnish and red wine reduction sauce. Kuma's Corner, a foodie destination with just a few tables, names its hamburgers after heavy metal bands. October's is named for the Swedish band Ghost. Members of the band dress in religious robes and wear skeleton face makeup.

Jeff Young of New Orleans runs the Catholic Foodie blog. He says it's in "poor taste" to have a communion wafer on a burger.

Luke Tobias is director of operations for Kuma's Corner. He says the restaurant never wanted to offend anyone. He says hopefully people will realize they're "just having fun" and are fans of the band Ghost.

The Ghost is as follows:

  • 10 oz. patty
  • Slow braised goat shoulder
  • Aged white cheddar
  • Ghost chile aioli
  • Red wine reduction
  • Communion wafer garnish
