Local, local, local at the Plaza District Festival

Local, local, local at the Plaza District Festival

OKLAHOMA CITY -

The "support local" movement just keeps getting bigger in Oklahoma. Its popularity was on full display in Oklahoma City's Plaza District Saturday.

"This is really a true showcase of all of Oklahoma's talent," Bailey Gordon, the Plaza District Festival co-chair, said.

The festival has grown from last year. This year the festival offered two music stages and 45 artists' booths.

"The Plaza District Festival is unique in that all of the artists and restaurants that are featured here, are local," Gordon said.

"Oklahoma has so many nice, handmade festivals and a chance for people to really get out there and sell their stuff," artist Melissa Madewell said.

Madewell runs Pink Acorn Designs, knitting and sewing handmade goods. It was her first time at the festival.

"I love it. I've loved every second of it," Madewell said.

Madewell says the push for local in Oklahoma is great and the festival offers more people the opportunity to get in to it.

"Handmade, it just doesn't get an better because you have a one of a kind things that someone put their heart and soul in to. Big stores have their place, but you want something original," Madewell said.

"There's a lot of creativity here and a lot of innovation here so I think that's really neat that we're finally really embracing it and showing it off," Gordon said.

The Plaza District also showcases locals for Live on the Plaza every second Friday of the month.
