CUSTER COUNTY -

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Oklahoma says the identification of the remains of six people found in a Custer County lake could take anywhere from days to years.

According to Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office spokesperson Amy Elliott, the office will attempt to identify the remains using Anthropological and if necessary, Forensic Pathological methods.

The length of time will depend on the features of the remains and their state of preservation. Elliot says in some cases, if the DNA is degraded, it may not be possible to use scientific means to identify the remains.

The six remains are currently being examined by the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's in-house Anthropologist.

Authorities discovered the remains after pulling up a 1969 Camaro and a 1950's model Chevrolet out of Foss Lake. The remains of three people were found in each vehicle.
