Sinkhole opens in downtown Oklahoma City

Posted: Updated:

A massive sinkhole has opened up in downtown Oklahoma City and has swallowed a car.

The sinkhole opened up just after 3:30 Thursday afternoon near 2nd and Villa.

Pictures from the scene show a red car was sitting at the spot where the sinkhole formed and was swallowed by the sinkhole.

The car was heading north on the inside lane of Villa when the road opened up and the car dropped. Three people were in the car when the sinkhole opened up but they were all uninjured. The three people were able to climb out of a back window.

The hole filled up with a water and a witness tells FOX 25 there was a water main break in the area earlier Thursday.

“Seeing a broken violin is nothing new to me,” Kyle Dillingham said turning to the shelf of those violins waiting for repair. “They’re all over the place, this is a pretty bad break,” he said pulling out a violin with gaping hole in its shell.  Sometimes a ‘bad break’ is just that for the instrument. Those violins where the repair cost exceeds the replacement value are deemed ‘broken beyond repair.’
