DURANT -

A coach at a junior high school in Durant has been released from jail after charges were filed accusing him of several counts of injury to a minor.

42-year-old Roy West was charged Tuesday with seven counts of injury to a minor child. A probably cause affidavit says West threw baseballs at players as punishments for inadequate performance.

The affidavit says the kids were hit in the back, legs, arms, and lower torso with baseballs.

West appeared in a Bryan County Court Tuesday, he was released on personal recognizance and is due back in court October 17. His attorney says he's not guilty.
