The medical examiner has released its report of the autopsy of Chris Lane, the Australian baseball gunned down in what police say was a "thrill kill".

The Oklahoma medical examiner says Lane died from a single, penetrating, small caliber gunshot wound. The bullet pierced Lane's back, rib cage, both lungs, aorta, and pulmonary artery.

The 22-year-old Australian native was shot and killed while out for a jog on Friday, August 15 in Duncan. Lane was in Oklahoma to play baseball for East Central University in Ada.

Police Chief Danny Ford has said the three teens who are responsible for his murder shot him because they were bored.

"He said the motive was, 'We were going to kill somebody,'" Ford told Australian radio station 3AW.

"They decided all three of them were going to kill somebody."

15-year-old James Edwards and 16-year-old Chancey Luna were both formally charged with first degree murder on August 20, they'll be in back in court on October 16.

A third teen, 17-year-old Michael Jones, is being charged with use of a vehicle while a weapon was being discharged and accessory after the fact to first degree murder. Jones is being treated as an adult, but could be considered a youthful offender or juvenile per his conviction. His preliminary hearing is set for October 2.

"I'm gonna do everything I can to see that these three thugs pay for what they did to Christopher Lane," said District Attorney Jason Hicks.

Hicks believes Luna pulled the trigger on the .22 revolver and shot the 22-year-old once in the back. According to Hicks, when Edwards was being booked, he was caught on camera dancing and laughing.

"As if it were a joke," Hicks said.

Family members say if they're relatives are guilty, they should receive punishment.

"If these three young boys including my brother are guilty then they should be punished for taking and innocent life," said Rachel Padilla, older sister of James Edwards.

"The young kids should go to rehab or go somewhere to get the discipline, the corrections and stuff where it will help them once they get out," said Edwards' father James Edwards Sr.
