Trayvon Martin shooting recreated for anti-gun violence ad

Posted: Updated:

A new Public Service Announcement that recreates the shooting death of Trayvon Martin has been published by the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence and is making waves.

The ad premiered on YouTube and uses audio clips from the night Martin was shot by George Zimmermen to retell the story. The producers of the ad combed through the 911 calls and used selected snippets from the recordings to create the ad.

Among the clips: Zimmerman's non-emergency call to police who told him not to follow Martin and neighbors who reported the incident.

The video shows the Zimmerman actor following the Martin actor on foot, which is incorrect from the real story.; Zimmerman was in his car when he followed Martin.

As the ad progresses, we go inside a house that represents the house of one of the witnesses who called 911 as they report the shooting.

The video takes us back outside where the Zimmerman actor has his hands up to police and the actor portraying Martin is laying flat on the ground. The camera pans and shows several more men laying flat on the ground (all wearing hoodies) with states names next to them, representing states with "Stand Your Ground" laws.

The ad wraps up with these lines:
"OUR LAWS SHOULD PROTECT VICTIMS.
NOT CREATE MORE.

STAND UP TO "STAND YOUR GROUND" LAWS
IN 26 STATES."
