Stoops Stays Quiet on Quarterbacks

Stoops Stays Quiet on Quarterbacks

Posted: Updated:

Only 12 days until the start of the college football season, but Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops is remaining tight lipped on his quarterback situation.

"When we're ready, we'll say so," said Stoops.

Blake Bell and Trevor Knight emerged as the two prime candidates for the job when Kendall Thompson broke his foot at the start of fall camp.

"They're mentally tough guys that work hard, as is Kendall. I'm confident Kendall will work his way back in to a guy we really like as well once he gets back on the field."

While most people assume that Bell will take over the helm, Stoops has expressed a liking for both quarterbacks and their progression throughout the spring and summer.

Bell clearly has more playing experience. The 6-6, 252-pound junior became known for his short yardage, Belldozer package. Bell has 24 rushing touchdowns on 104 career carries, but has attempted just 20 passes. Knight, the 6-1, 201-pound freshman, is considered the more athletic of the two.

The Sooners open up the season August 31st, at home against Louisiana-Monroe.
