The University of Oklahoma confirms a hopeful starter under center is out after suffering an injury in practice Thursday.

Sophomore quarterback Kendal Thompson suffered a right foot fracture in practice Thursday morning. Despite the injury, OU head coach Bob Stoops says the redshirt sophomore should be back in the early fall.

"We're optimistic that Kendal will return early in the season," Stoops said. "Kendal will undergo a surgical procedure today. He has a very positive outlook and is eager to rejoin his teammates on the field as soon as possible."
