Mom, boyfriend turn selves in on neglect charges

Posted: Updated:

The mom of a 7-year-old boy who died in a house fire and her boyfriend have both turned themselves into authorities 24 hours after child neglect charges were filed against them.

Noemi Lopez and Antonio DeJesus Guillen were formally charged by the district attorney with Tuesday with felony neglect charges.

Prosecutors say Lopez and Guillen left Lopez' 7-year-old son Adrian Roberto Avalos alone at their home on SW 51st Street on April 28th so they could go to a bar. Authorities say they left at 11:00 and didn't return until 2:00 AM when they were alerted by Lopez' mother that the house was one fire.

Police believe the fire was intentionally set.

On Wednesday, both turned themselves in on charges of felony child neglect.
