(FOX 23) -- An armed robbery suspect was shot by a Tulsa Police officer during a nearly six-hour long standoff in north Tulsa overnight.

Tulsa Police responded to an armed robbery at the U-Stop near 36th Street North and Lewis around 8pm Sunday. A witness told officers two men demanded cash and cigarettes from the clerk. Both men were armed. The clerk handed over the cash and a witness saw the suspects run into an apartment at the Mohawk Manor complex across the street.

Officers surrounded the apartment. Two men came out and told officers the two suspects were still inside. They called for the men to come out and a 17-year-old walked to the front door holding a gun. He then walked to the back door still carrying the gun. Officers told the suspect to drop the gun several times, but he did not.

Police told FOX23 the teen then raised the gun and pointed it at officers. Two officers opened fire. The suspect was hit once in the chest. He was taken to the hospital.

Officers continued to make attempts to contact the second suspect. Police say the 18-year-old ignored them and refused to come out. Around 1:30am the Special Operations Team shot a chemical agent into apartment. The teen quickly left the apartment and was arrested.
